Scarring

Scars are a natural and essential part of the healing process in that they help protect wounds from additional physical damage. Scars, however, are often unsightly once a wound is closed. We treat scars in a variety of ways including:

VBeam (Pulsed-Dye Laser)

The VBeam is a Pulsed Dye Laser that delivers an intense but gentle burst of light into selectively targeted areas of the skin. The light is absorbed by specific blood vessels or melanin pigmented areas in the skin, depending on the condition being treated. The benefits includes a decrease in the redness of scars. The scar is also less noticeable and becomes more flat.

Profractional Eribum Laser

ProFractional ablates narrow-diameter channels into the skin, covering a fraction of the total treatment area. This action initiates the body’s wound healing response, which stimulates fibroblasts to produce new collagen and elastin, while leaving the surrounding tissue intact for rapid healing. The benefits of ProFractional include increased patient comfort, shorter healing times, and tunable results that can range from subtle to dramatic.

MicroLaser Peel

A MicroLaser Peel uses a scanning erbium laser to remove the outer layers of your skin in a safe and precise manner. We choose the depth of the peel based on your specific skin, how extensive your scarring and how much downtime you can tolerate.

Unlike earlier lasers, the MicroLaser Peel can be used on the full face, neck, chest, hands, etc. We can also treat smaller areas of need such as the eyes and mouth without the risk of changing the color of your skin. This was not possible with earlier laser technology.

One 10 micron MicroLaser Peel is the equivalent of 4-6 microdermabrasion treatments. You will experience 2-6 days of redness and/or peeling with this procedure depending on the depth. We may recommend anywhere from 1-6 treatments depending on your skin and schedule.

MicroLaser Peels, using the Sciton laser, can be done as a stand-alone treatment, or in combination with other lasers as well. This treatment has become one of the most effective scarring treatments available today.

Microdermabrasion

At Southern Surgical Arts, we only use the best non-particle microdermabrasion technology with DiamondTome Skin Resurfacing System.  Although it is not a treatment for scars, pre-treatment with microdermabrasion make laser treatments more effective.  This restorative treatment is an excellent addition to laser or chemical peels to target acne scarring. The DiamondTome is the latest technology in Microdermabrasion, a non-surgical, sterile and painless technique of exfoliating the topmost layer of skin. The deluxe treatment adds a specialized mask to give maximum firming benefits.

The DiamondTome Wand removes dead skin by gently exfoliating the skin with natural diamond chips, while also vacuuming the dead skin cells away in a sterile and controlled manner. Removing this outer layer of dead skin cells leaves a smoother texture and promotes the growth of healthy new skin cells.

Vibradermabrasion

The next generation microdermabrasion, Vibraderm skin restorations system gently exfoliates the skin while creating new collagen, improved tone and a smoother texture after one treatment.  Although it is not a treatment for scars, pre-treatment with microdermabrasion make laser treatments more effective. The Vibraderm employs a patented vibrating head with a stainless steel abrasive surface to evenly exfoliate the skin.  The Vibradermabrasion procedure is a luxury and an essential part of your beautiful skin regimen.
