What is Liposuction, Liposculpture and Laser-assisted Liposuction?

Liposculpture, including SmartLipo, liposuction, body contouring and fat transfer, is the most common cosmetic surgical procedure in the United States. Liposuction at Southern Surgical Arts is performed to remove excess fat in unwanted areas and to contour the body into a more desired shape and appearance. Carey Nease, MD  and Chad Deal, MD use an artistic approach to SmartLipo, liposculpture and fat transfer, a cosmetic surgical procedure that enhances the face, gluteal area (buttocks), or other areas where fat is desired for a more shapely or youthful appearance.

Common areas treated with liposuction include the abdomen, flanks, back, legs, neck and upper arms. Anesthesia for liposuction includes a combination of tumescent fluid injections and sedation.  Nearly all liposculpture procedures are done in an outpatient setting and recovery varies from 1-2 days to a week.

Liposculpture, Liposuction & Fat Transfer

The latest technique to enhance the face and gluteal area is done by transferring a patient's own fat cells from one area of the body to another. This harvesting and grafting technique includes liposculpture from the abdomen, flanks, low back or anywhere there is excess fat and then sterile transfer of that fat by injection into the cheeks, marionette lines, buttocks and even the breasts. 

SMARTLIPO uses the latest advancements in cosmetic surgery technology, which provide a safer, quicker and cost-effective method.

Pioneered in Europe, the SmartLipo procedure is the first laser-assisted liposuction procedure. SmartLipo was approved by the FDA in November of 2006 and has quickly been labeled the cutting edge procedure in cosmetic surgery.  Dr. Nease is also proud to announce that he is the first cosmetic surgeon in North Georgia and the Chattanooga area to offer SmartLipo laser body sculpting. 

More Information on Liposuction

Liposuction is a very common, popular procedure. It is designed for the permanent removal of fatty tissue, commonly referred to as “cellulite.” It is an elective procedure that allows the cosmetic surgeon to remove undesirable, subcutaneous fat in isolated areas that do not respond to diet and exercise. These areas include the hips, thighs, abdomen, knees, ankles, face and neck. Liposuction is most successful in people with good skin tone who have fatty deposits. It is not a treatment for obesity. If weight gain occurs following liposuction, the fat will be deposited in areas that have not been treated. The procedure can be repeated, if necessary. To maintain the safety of the procedure, there is a limit on how much can be done at one time.

A variety of factors can affect the results: Physical condition, genetic makeup, diet, exercise, smoking, alcohol intake, and skin elasticity. Liposuction is done under tumescent anesthesia and sedation on an outpatient basis. The surgeon makes small (less that ½ inch), discreet incisions in the areas to be treated. A cannula (flexible tube) is inserted in a small incision and attached to a suction machine. The procedure may take an hour or more, depending on how many areas are involved. Recovery from liposuction is relatively easy. Expect a mild amount of swelling and bruising in the following two weeks. You will wear special garments provided to apply pressure, minimize swelling and provide support while healing. These garments also assist in retraction of the skin.

Results are recognizable almost immediately and will continue to improve as swelling subsides. You should be up and walking around the day after surgery. Increase your activity daily until full activity is resumed at 2-4 weeks. You will be ready to return to office work in 3-5 days and more active employment at 10-14 days. Avoid the sun until all bruising has subsided. A sunscreen should be used routinely; it is easy to get sunburned during recovery because of decreased sensation.

The price of Face Lift surgery at Southern Surgical Arts begins at $3,900.  Your quote will include the surgeon's fee, anesthesia costs and the facility fee for the operating room and all other suppies and implants when indicated.  The total price at Southern Surgical Arts also includes all routine follow visits and pre-op lab work.

Some surgery centers bundle the price of the procedure into one total fee like we do at Southern Surgical Arts and others may only quote you their surgeon's fee so that their prices seem less.   We will give you the total surgery price.
