Dr. Nease conducted a Laser Face Lift Study including 25 patients for a clinical evaluation of facial rejuvenation and advanced face lifting techniques using two lasers in combination. This technique is cutting edge technology with the goal of minimizing downtime and scarring while achieving naturally youthful results. In January 2011, Drs. Nease presented his findings at the 27th Annual Scientific Meeting of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery in Phoenix, Arizona. New Technology at Southern Surgical Arts
The newest technology available for facial rejuvenation is at Southern Surgical Arts. Dr. Nease is pleased to announce the Affirm CO2 Resurfacing Laser combined with the Smartlipo Laser Assisted Facelift for great results with little downtime. Dr. Nease is one of the few cosmetic surgeons in the country who has the surgical expertise in using both the Affirm CO2 and the laser assisted face lift for facial rejuvenation. This new technology is quickly replacing traditional facelifts with better results, a more naturally beautiful outcome, smaller scars and half the recovery time.
What is a Face Lift?
Facelift surgery, or rhytidectomy, is a procedure designed to restore a more youthful appearance by removing major wrinkles and sagging skin on the face and neck. It involves tightening of the facial and neck muscles as well as the removal of any excess skin along the neck, jowl and jaw line. The procedure will also give a lifted, more youthful appearance to the cheek or midface area.
A facelift will improve facial appearance and have a dramatic effect on the neck, enhancing its contour and profile. A facelift is frequently performed in conjunction with blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery), forehead or brow lift, chin augmentation, and skin rejuvenation with chemical peel or laser resurfacing to create an overall rejuvenation of the face. The procedure can be repeated in the future, though it is rarely necessary for at least 10-15 years.

More Information about Face Lifts
Facelifts are performed in outpatient surgical centers or in an accredited physician’s office-based surgical center. Local anesthesia with intravenous sedation is most commonly used, with premedication to help you relax. General anesthesia is not required for this type of procedure.
The surgeon will make incisions inside the hairline at the temple, in front of the ear, then around the earlobe and behind the ear, ending at the hairline behind the ear. Excess skin is removed and sagging muscles and connective tissues are tightened. In some cases, fatty deposits are removed from beneath the chin and neck. Incisions are closed with small sutures that are removed in about 5-6 days. There should be little evidence of a scar within a few weeks, and over time they should fade enough that they are difficult to find.
In the weeks following the surgery, the facial skin and area around the ear may be numb. There may also be some temporary discoloration and mild bruising as healing begins, which may take a few months to disappear. Occasionally, the facial nerve is bruised during surgery, resulting in temporary loss of function or sensation. However, actual permanent damage to the facial nerve is rare.
The healing process is gradual, so you will not notice final results for up to 6 months. A tighter neck and jaw line, however, may be immediately apparent, even with some mild swelling. A single procedure often achieves the desired results and should last for many years. Most patients who have had facelifts are pleased with their new, more youthful appearance.
