Choosing Your Cosmetic Surgeon
You should feel confident in choosing Dr. Nease and Dr. Deal, both fellowship-trained Board-Certified Cosmetic Surgeons, and know that they here to help you achieve your aesthetic goals. You should also understand that there are some significant differences in the specialties of Cosmetic and Plastic Surgery. Plastic surgeons have extensive and diverse training in general surgery, trauma, burns, reconstruction, hand and some cosmetic surgery. Cosmetic surgeons have extensive and FOCUSED training specifically in the field of cosmetic surgery.
Fellowship-trained and board-certified Cosmetic Surgeons must first be ABMS board-certified in an initial surgical specialty. What does this mean? This means that similar to plastic surgeons, cosmetic surgeons must complete a surgical residency in either general surgery, head and neck surgery (ENT), oral maxillofacial surgery, or an equivalent surgical specialty. Then, the surgeon must train for an additional 1-2 years in a Cosmetic Surgery Fellowship program where he/she is focused entirely on cosmetic surgery procedures. The difference in plastic and cosmetic surgery training is that a plastic surgery resident/fellow is only required to perform 55 cosmetic surgery cases in his or her training while a cosmetic surgeon typically performs more than 700 cosmetic surgery procedures during his or her post-residency fellowship training. And, according to a November 2008 article in the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Journal titled "A Survey of Cosmetic Surgery Training in Plastic Surgery Programs in the Unites States," more than 36% of graduating plastic surgeons felt that they needed additional cosmetic surgery training.

Commitment to the Specialty of Cosmetic Surgery
Both Dr. Nease and Dr. Deal are fellowship-trained Double-Board Certified Cosmetic Surgeons. Their practice at Southern Surgical Arts is 100% committed, focused, dedicated to cosmetic surgery. They do nothing else but Face & Neck Lifts, Cosmetic Breast Surgery, Tummy Tucks, Liposuction and SmartLipo, Mommy Makeovers, Vaginal Rejuvenation and other cosmetic procedures and services that can enhance your appearance and improve your self-confidence.
During Dr. Nease's and Dr. Deal's cosmetic surgery fellowships, each performed more than 700 major cosmetic surgical procedures in their training year alone. Since then, each of our surgeons have devoted their practices around the latest laser technology to bring the patients a practice dedicated to experience and excellence. After more than 3,500 cosmetic surgery cases, 2 Best of the Best Awards, 2 Reader's Choice Awards and many happy patients in the Before and After Gallery, we believe our surgeons are the best in the area and the Cosmetic Surgeons for you.
Commitment to Technology and Safety
Dr. Nease and Dr. Deal use the latest laser technology for facial rejuvenation, wrinkles, acne scarring, pigmentation, redness, hair removal, tattoo removal and more. Dr. Nease has used two of his lasers, the Affirm CO2 fractionated resurfacing laser and the SmartLipo laser, to research the effects of a new approach for minimally invasive facial rejuvenation. Dr. Nease’s laser face lift study was a clinical study for facial rejuvenation and advanced face lifting techniques using the two lasers in combination. This technique is cutting edge technology with the goal of minimizing downtime and scarring while achieving naturally youthful results. Dr. Nease will present his findings at the 27th Annual Scientific meeting of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery this January 2011.
In recent years, Dr. Nease's research has been published in several aesthetic surgical journals, and he has given numerous lectures and presentations to his peers across the country. He also trains other surgeons from across the country in the latest cosmetic surgery techniques and laser technology. Dr. Nease is currently a fellowship director through the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery (AACS) and actively involved in training young cosmetic surgeons from across the country in the latest cosmetic surgery techniques.
Technology makes your cosmetic surgery safer, your healing faster and your results better. So does your facility. That is why Southern Surgical Arts Calhoun is a fully-accredited, AAAHC surgery center. You can choose to have your surgery performed in Calhoun, or Dr. Nease also has full Face and Body Cosmetic Surgery privileges at Grandview Medical Center in Jasper, TN, conveniently located just minutes from downtown Chattanooga.
