What's Normal?
Many women are concerned about the appearance of their genital (“vaginal”) area. The Labia, also known in layman’s terms as “vaginal lips,” “genital lips,” or just “lips” can be a source of concern or possible embarrassment.
The labia consist of two paired folds. The outer labia, called the labia majora are the larger labia and the ones that are associated with feminine beauty and youth. They should be full and nearly completely cover the inner, thinner labia which are called the labia minora. These inner labia should not protrude from the outer labia or if they do it should be very minimal. However sometimes they may protrude excessively. Also, after pregnancies, they may stretch and lengthen. When these protrude excessively, it is a simple procedure to correct them. This can be done under general or local anesthesia.
Reasons for Considering
• The inner labia protrudes from the outer labia
• Women with children who experience stretched or lengthen labia
General Procedure
The labia minora are simply trimmed to a smaller size. This is quick and not very painful. While there is a small chance that some sensation may be lost, most of the sexual sensation is located in the clitoral and vaginal areas, which are not affected by the surgery. All the risks of surgery exist with this procedure, as well as possible loss of sensation or excessive tenderness, and unfavorable appearance.
