Ear Reshaping

Namely in children but also in adults as well, awkward-looking ears can sometimes be a source of shame and embarrassment that affects the way the person sees themselves (often from childhood on), and the way others perceive them. Ears can sometimes be too large, disportionate to the head, misaligned, or otherwise aesthetically unpleasing due to a genetic condition or previous accident that has left a person's ears out of symmetry.

What happens in an otoplasty procedure

Otoplasty is today a commonly performed procedure. The framework of the ear is essentially cartilage and skin. While anatomical differences vary from person to person, which informs the specific and particular work done on a patient, essentially Otoplasty reshapes either the position or size of the ear. Carefully planned, well-hidden incisions are made behind the ear, the skin is redraped, and the cartilage and ear itself are repositioned in a more pleasing way that is proportionate to the head and face. Also, large or torn earlobes can be corrected during this procedure. Former patients have indicated some mild discomfort during the average 1-2 weeks that it takes to recover from this surgery.

Especially with children, we strongly encourage both the parents and child to come in for an in-person consultation. Our doctors, Dr. Chad Deal and Dr. Carey Nease want very much to alleviate any questions or concerns you may have, make sure that Otoplasty is right for you, and completely understand your situation. For adults as well as children, they'll explain the preparation, procedure, recovery time, and what to expect in the weeks following the surgery. They have performed more than 8,000 cosmetic procedures over the past 10 years, and many of the before and after photos of their work can be seen in our gallery.
