About Hyaluronic Acid

Juvéderm has been in use since 2003, but scientists discovered its key ingredient, hyaluronic acid, nearly a century ago. In 1934, German biochemist Karl Meyer and colleague John Palmer discovered the gel-like substance while studying the fluid of the eye. This chemical compound is found in several places in our bodies, including our joints, and in the deep layers of our dermis.

Although they had little understanding of its potential benefits, advances in science and medicine, and the ability to produce a long-lasting synthetic version have led to the widespread usage of hyaluronic acid. And, one of its most popular forms is the key ingredient in dermal fillers for facial rejuvenation.

On a molecular level, HA’s role in the body is to attract and bind to water molecules. When injected beneath the skin, HA gel expands to add volume and reduce the appearance of wrinkles. The presence of this additional HA also promotes the health of the extracellular matrix, where the important structural elements that support firm, youthful skin are produced.

What Juvéderm Can Address

Juvéderm is a highly versatile treatment that can handle the following concerns:

Fine Lines

Fine lines may be small, but they can turn into a bigger problem as they slowly deepen over time. They appear in many areas of the face, such as around the eyes and mouth. Juvéderm merely pauses the aging process by smoothing out these lines.

Volume Loss

As we age, we lose facial volume. This is most noticeable in the cheeks, lips, and under-eye area. Features can begin to appear hollow or sunken. Juvéderm has a line of products specifically designed to address this and can create a plumper, rounder appearance. Adding volume can give a subtle lift to lightly sagging skin!

Wrinkles and Creasing

As we age, our skin stops producing the same quality and quantity of collagen as previously. As a result, our skin loses firmness and is unable to bounce back as easily. Sun exposure and lifestyle choices cause further damage, and wrinkles and creasing begin to set in.

Juvéderm can soften the appearance of creases such as nasolabial lines (the “parentheses” that stretch from the edges of the nose to the corners of our mouth), furrowed forehead lines, and glabellar lines (the “11’s” that appear between the eyebrows). Juvéderm’s thick, clear gel can be injected directly under these lines to “fill in” unsightly creasing and turn back the clock.

Benefits

Patients enjoy Juvéderm because of the safe, simple treatment and exceptional results. Here are some of its other benefits:

  • Firms skin and improves texture
  • Activates natural collagen production
  • Effectively reduces the appearance of many common signs of aging
  • A fast, stress-free process with no recovery time

Candidates

Most patients with minimal to moderate signs of aging can take advantage of Juvéderm’s rejuvenating potential and avoid more costly and invasive measures. While the treatment has helped a wide range of patients, there are a few items to consider before seeking treatment. Candidates should:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Be in optimal health and free of certain skin conditions
  • Not be pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Understand the kind of results you can achieve with a Juvéderm treatment

We’ll discuss these details and more at your meeting with Southern Surgical Arts. Make an appointment at any one of our offices dotted throughout Tennessee and Georgia!

Personal Consultation at Southern Surgical Arts

Patients come to SSA because of our personalized approach, experience, and transparency. Dr. Chad Deal, Dr. Vincent Gardner, and Dr. Daniel Barker are committed to making a positive difference in their patients’ lives with beautiful results.

One of our nurse injectors will explain Juvéderm’s benefits, injection process, and aftercare instructions during your consultation appointment.

We’ll discuss your medical history (including skin-related conditions) and examine your skin during this meeting. If deemed a good candidate for Juvéderm, then we’ll move forward and pencil in your treatment date.

The process starts with a consultation! Arrange for one by reaching us directly at (888) 988-5682

Preparation

The great thing about Juvéderm is that little preparation is needed. At your consultation, we give each patient their individualized instructions to follow before they come into the office. We’ll advise to:

  • Hold off on certain medications such as Tylenol and blood thinners, unless instructed otherwise.
  • Avoid applying topical treatments that may aggravate the skin, such as retinol, glycolic acid, and other anti-aging treatments.
  • Stay away from alcoholic beverages at least a day before and after your scheduled treatment.

Procedure

Once you’re in a private treatment room, we’ll start by cleansing your face and applying a topical anesthetic for your comfort. Then, a nurse injector will strategically administer Juvéderm under the skin with a fine needle. When injected, the HA works to smooth and fill hollow areas. Most patients will be done in under 30 minutes and can easily resume their day.

Recovery

Juvéderm is a convenient treatment with no recovery time. You can continue your life right after leaving our office, but it’s best to wait 24 hours before performing strenuous activity.

Mild symptoms may be felt for a few days, including swelling, bruising, soreness, and slight redness at the injection sites. You can reduce these symptoms by gently applying an ice pack and taking an OTC pain reliever.

Corresponding & Complementary Procedures

Our staff may recommend other treatments to serve your aesthetic goals. We are pleased to offer a wide selection of surgical and non-surgical solutions, including:

Injectables and Fillers

SSA offers various injectable treatments that keep your skin looking young and refreshed. Along with Juvéderm, we offer Sculptra, Radiesse, and Allofill to smoothe wrinkles, creasing, and restore volume.

Laser Facelift

Patients who want to correct mild to moderate lines with a minimally invasive procedure can turn to the innovative laser facelift. The procedure uses internal skin tightening technology with effective devices such as Renuvion and Necktite. Liposuction can also be used for smoother, more youthful contours. The hour-long procedure gives patients a refreshed look on their faces and necks.

Cosmetic Facelift

A facelift is a surgical alternative for long-lasting results of healthy, vibrant skin. It removes loose, excess skin and adjusts the underlying facial structures for a firmer, lifted appearance.

Cost of Juvéderm

The final cost is an all-inclusive figure that will vary slightly for each patient, depending on the amount of cosmetic required, and the areas being treated. We’ll discuss these concerns at your consultation. Our front desk staff is happy to direct you to several accommodating payment options to make your treatment possible.
