Women’s Health and the Power of PRP

The PRP used in the O-Shot is derived from the patient’s own blood, which is drawn and then processed to isolate the platelets. Platelets are cells that are important for blood clotting and wound healing, but they also contain growth factors that can stimulate tissue regeneration and improve blood flow.

Patients have reported improved overall sexual experience, including increased sexual desire, sensitivity, and satisfaction. Patients also report improvement in urinary incontinence after just one procedure.

Platelet-Rich Plasma & The O-Shot

Platelets are small, disc-shaped cell fragments that circulate in the blood and play an important role in blood clotting. When a blood vessel is damaged, platelets are activated and clump together to stop the bleeding.

Platelets were once thought to only help with blood clotting, but recent research shows they also contain many growth factors and cytokines that can promote healing and regeneration.

Growth factors are proteins that stimulate cell growth, division, and differentiation in living organisms. They play a crucial role in developing and maintaining tissues and organs in the body.

Growth factors are involved in many important biological processes, such as wound healing, tissue regeneration, and immune response. Growth factors can be naturally occurring or artificially synthesized and are often used in medical treatments to promote healing and tissue repair.

The Role of Cytokines

Cytokines are a group of proteins produced by various body cells, including immune cells, and act as signaling molecules to regulate the body’s immune response and inflammation. They play a crucial role in the body’s defense against infections and injuries and are involved in many important biological processes, such as cell growth, differentiation, and death. Cytokines can be pro-inflammatory or anti-inflammatory; their balance is important for maintaining a healthy immune system. Imbalances in cytokine levels have been linked to various diseases and disorders, including autoimmune diseases, cancer, and chronic inflammation.

PRP Brings Many Benefits Together

Platelet-rich plasma is a concentrated solution of these growth factors and cytokines that can modify the body’s environment and promote tissue repair. Some of the most important growth factors in PRP include fibroblast growth factor, vascular endothelial growth factor, and epidermal growth factor, among others. The application of platelet-rich plasma has been explored in sexual medicine, specifically with the development of the O-Shot.

About O-Shot Treatment

The O-Shot involves injecting PRP into the vaginal tissue to improve sexual pleasure and treat certain sexual dysfunction conditions in women. It has gained attention as a non-surgical, minimally invasive treatment option for women seeking to improve their sexual experience.

Concerns Addressed by O-Shot Treatment

The O-shot has been reported to provide some benefits for the following sexual and functional issues:

  • Decreased sexual desire or libido
  • Difficulty reaching orgasm (anorgasmia)
  • Pain during intercourse (dyspareunia)
  • Vaginal dryness
  • Lichen sclerosus (a skin condition that affects the genital area)
  • Urinary incontinence or leakage
  • Chronic pelvic pain

These issues can occur for various reasons, including aging, hormonal changes, childbirth, and menopause. The O-Shot can help address these issues by using the growth factors and cytokines in PRP to promote tissue regeneration, increase blood flow, and stimulate cell growth.

PRP and Medicine

Hematologists first introduced the concept and definition of platelet-rich plasma in the 1970s to describe plasma with a higher platelet count than that of circulating blood. It was originally used as a transfusion product for patients with thrombocytopenia, a medical condition characterized by a low platelet count in the blood.

PRP has been primarily utilized in sports medicine to treat musculoskeletal injuries. Due to its use in professional athletes, it has gained significant media attention and has become a widely adopted treatment option.

What Are the Benefits of the O-Shot?

Increased Sexual Desire

Women with low libido or difficulty getting aroused can benefit from the O-Shot. PRP can improve blood flow to the clitoris and vaginal tissue, increasing sensitivity and desire.

Enhanced Sexual Pleasure

The O-Shot can help women experience stronger and more frequent orgasms by increasing the sensitivity of the clitoris and vaginal tissue.

Improved Vaginal Dryness

Many women experience vaginal dryness, which can make sex uncomfortable or painful. The O-Shot can stimulate new tissue growth and increase blood flow to the vaginal area, which can improve natural lubrication.

Treatment of Urinary Incontinence

Some women experience urinary incontinence or the involuntary leakage of urine. The O-Shot can help by strengthening the muscles of the pelvic floor, which can reduce the occurrence of incontinence.

Treatment of Lichen Sclerosus (LS)

LS is a skin condition that can affect the genital area, causing itching, pain, and scarring. The O-Shot can help by stimulating tissue regeneration and reducing inflammation.

Personal Consultation

A patient can expect a comprehensive evaluation by a qualified healthcare provider during a consultation at Southern Surgical Arts for O-shot injections. The consultation typically starts with discussing the patient’s medical history, current medications, and existing medical conditions.

We will ask questions about the patient’s sexual history, including their level of sexual desire, any pain or discomfort during intercourse, and any changes in sexual function or sensation. We may physically examine the vaginal area to assess the patient’s anatomy and any signs of vaginal atrophy or other conditions that may affect sexual function.

Furthermore, a pelvic exam will bring to light any signs of pelvic floor dysfunction, which can contribute to urinary incontinence. If we determine that the patient is a good candidate for PRP O-shot injections, we will explain the procedure, its benefits, and potential risks or complications.

We may also discuss other treatment options and answer any questions. The consultation allows the patient to discuss their concerns, goals, and expectations for the procedure and hear recommendations for the most appropriate treatment plan based on their needs.

Preparation

After the consultation, you can take a few steps to prepare for your O-shot appointment. We will give you specific instructions before your appointment, such as avoiding certain medications or abstaining from sexual activity. It is important to follow these instructions to ensure the best possible outcome. Drinking plenty of water before your appointment can help ensure that your blood is easily accessible for the PRP extraction process. Furthermore, to optimize your body’s natural healing process, it is recommended to avoid alcohol and tobacco for several days before and after your appointment. Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that you can easily take off for your appointment to help you feel relaxed and at ease during the procedure. Arriving early for your appointment can help you feel calm and prepared. It also allows time for any necessary paperwork or pre-treatment preparations. If you have any remaining questions or concerns, we are here to answer them and help however we can before the procedure begins. Call if anything arises!

The O-Shot Procedure

During the procedure, your provider will first draw a small amount of blood and place it in a centrifuge machine to separate the platelet-rich plasma from the rest of the blood components. To help ease the patient’s mind during the procedure, we will use a topical anesthetic to numb the injection site, which can help reduce discomfort. We invite you to bring your headphones to play calming music to help you stay relaxed and comfortable during the procedure. The PRP is then injected into specific areas of the vaginal area using a small needle. The areas specific to your treatment will depend on the results of your consultation. The process typically takes a few minutes; most patients report minimal discomfort.

Recovery

After the O-Shot procedure, the patient can typically resume normal activities immediately. Your provider will provide detailed instructions on caring for the injection site and what to expect during recovery. You may experience mild discomfort or swelling in the treated area, but this should subside within a few days. It is recommended to have sexual intercourse within four hours of the procedure to allow blood flow to the area for optimal results.

What Are the Results of the Orgasm Shot?

Many women report increased sensitivity and arousal following the O-Shot procedure, which can lead to more satisfying sexual experiences and better overall sexual health. Additionally, the O-Shot has been shown to improve vaginal lubrication, reducing discomfort and pain during intercourse.

In addition to its sexual health benefits, the O-Shot has also been effective in treating urinary incontinence. This condition, characterized by a loss of bladder control, can be embarrassing and disruptive to a woman’s daily life. However, many women report significant improvement in their urinary incontinence symptoms following the O-Shot procedure.
