Atlanta's Standard for Surgeon-Directed Fillers

Southern Surgical Arts has built its Atlanta Beauty Bar around the same standard the practice has used since 2004: surgeon-designed treatment plans carried out by trained injectors. Every RADIESSE® protocol at the Atlanta location is mapped by board-certified, fellowship-trained cosmetic surgeons, then administered by a licensed nurse practitioner or physician assistant. That structure means patients get a filler chosen for their anatomy, not a one-size-fits-all injection.

What Is RADIESSE®?

RADIESSE® is a dermal filler made of calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres suspended in a smooth gel carrier. The FDA has approved calcium hydroxylapatite fillers for:

  • Moderate to severe facial wrinkles
  • Volume loss
  • Use in the hands

Unlike hyaluronic acid fillers, which simply add volume, RADIESSE® works in two stages. It provides immediate structural support the moment it's injected, then gradually stimulates the body to produce its own new collagen over the following months. That second stage is what gives RADIESSE® its long-term, progressively improving effect.

RADIESSE® vs. Other Fillers

  • HA fillers (Juvéderm, Revanesse®) are reversible with hyaluronidase
  • HA fillers tend to suit softer, more superficial areas like the lips
  • RADIESSE® has a thicker consistency than HA fillers
  • RADIESSE® is better suited to structural correction in the lower face and hands

Benefits of RADIESSE®

  • Treats multiple areas in one visit, including the cheeks, jawline, pre-jowl sulcus, and back of the hands
  • Made from a substance similar to what's naturally found in bone, so it doesn't require allergy testing before treatment
  • Versatile consistency that can be layered at different depths depending on the correction needed
  • Fewer touch-up visits are needed compared to shorter-acting fillers, thanks to its longer-lasting collagen effect
  • A well-established safety profile, with FDA approval dating back to 2006

Are You a Good Candidate for RADIESSE®?

Good candidates are healthy adults with moderate-to-severe volume loss in the cheeks, jawline, pre-jowl sulcus, or hands who want a filler that offers more lift and longevity than hyaluronic acid alone.

RADIESSE® isn't recommended for patients who:

  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Have active skin infections near the treatment area
  • Have a history of keloid scarring

A consultation at Southern Surgical Arts will confirm whether RADIESSE® or another filler we offer is the better fit.

Why Choose Southern Surgical Arts for RADIESSE® in Atlanta?

Southern Surgical Arts is home to one of the country's largest cosmetic surgery fellowship programs. Six board-certified, fellowship-trained cosmetic surgeons design every injectable protocol before being administered by a nurse practitioner or physician assistant. These injectors also maintain annual certification in advanced injection techniques, ensuring ongoing education rather than a one-time training session.

At the Atlanta location specifically, treatment plans are overseen by Gary DeCesare, MD, a board-certified plastic surgeon trained at UCLA Medical Center, Georgetown University, and the University of Miami, alongside physician assistant Amanda Vorko. Since 2004, the practice has performed more than 18,000 procedures across its Chattanooga, Calhoun, and Atlanta locations. This volume gives its injectors a depth of hands-on anatomical experience most standalone medspas can't match.

Beauty Backed by Excellence

The only way to know if RADIESSE® is the right filler for you is a face-to-face consultation, not a product page. Bring your questions, your goals, and any past filler experience to the conversation, and a Southern Surgical Arts provider will map out a plan from there. Call the Atlanta Beauty Bar or request an appointment online to get a date on the calendar.

Radiesse Frequently Asked Questions

How long does RADIESSE® last?

Results typically last up to 18 months, though individual results vary based on treatment area and metabolism.

Is RADIESSE® painful?

Most patients report mild discomfort during injection, minimized by topical numbing cream. RADIESSE® also contains lidocaine to reduce discomfort during treatment.

What are the risks of RADIESSE®?

Common side effects include temporary swelling, bruising, and redness at the injection site. Less common risks include nodules or lumps, which your provider can address if they occur. The FDA has also noted a risk of delayed-onset inflammation near filler injection sites following illness, vaccination, or dental work.

Can RADIESSE® be dissolved?

Unlike hyaluronic acid fillers, RADIESSE® cannot be dissolved with hyaluronidase. This is one reason a thorough consultation matters before treatment.

How many syringes will I need?

This depends on the treatment area and degree of correction desired. Your provider will recommend a specific plan during your consultation.
