About Sculptra® Aesthetic

Sculptra® Aesthetic adds natural-looking volume to your skin to address mid-face volume loss, wrinkles, folds, and smile lines. If you have a hollow appearance due to aging or because of weight fluctuations, we can restore your skin’s volume for a plumper appearance. We can also address volume loss near the temples, which is common with age. The flexible formula contains poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA)–tiny microspheres that stimulate the production of collagen and elastin. The smooth, flexible formula distributes itself evenly beneath the skin and moves fluidly with your facial movements for natural-looking results.

During your consultation, we will discuss your aesthetic goals to create a personalized treatment plan. You can ask any questions you have about the treatment during your consultation. All patients should have realistic expectations regarding the results of the treatment. The treatment is ideal for individuals experiencing facial volume loss, hollow cheeks or temples, deep lines or wrinkles, and other signs of facial aging that affect their appearance.

Preparation

To prepare for a Sculptra® Aesthetic treatment, you must stop taking medications or supplements that thin the blood. You must also stop drinking alcohol for at least 24 hours before and after your treatment. Depending on the types of treatments you need for your aesthetic goals, we may recommend additional treatments. If you combine Sculptra® Aesthetic with other treatments, we can discuss the best way to prepare as well as any questions you have during your consultation.

Treatment Process

On the day of your Sculptra® Aesthetic appointment, you must arrive with a clean face. We will cleanse your skin, and your injector will administer the formula beneath your skin to add natural-looking volume. The cannula is very thin, reducing the risk of bruising and skin irritation. The treatment should take no more than 20 minutes, depending on the number of areas you would like to treat and the condition of your skin.

After Your Treatment

After your treatment, you must take good care of your skin and avoid excessive sun exposure, which can cause fine lines, wrinkles, and premature aging (photoaging). Wearing sunscreen will be important for maintaining your results since UV exposure contributes up to 80% of skin aging. ⁽⁴⁾

Some patients experience minor skin irritation, bruising, or swelling afterward, which typically subsides in a few days. You can use a cold compress to alleviate discomfort as long as you do not put pressure on your skin after the treatment. You can also take over-the-counter medication as recommended by your injector. You can return to most of your everyday activities soon after your treatment, but you should avoid strenuous activities for about 24 hours.

After a few weeks, you can start to enjoy smoother skin and natural-looking volume after the treatment. The treatment can last up to two years.
