Juvederm is an anti-aging injectable cosmetic that improves the appearance of lines and wrinkles and adds dimension to facial features. The fast-acting treatment is made possible thanks to hyaluronic acid (HA), a natural substance found in our bodies. Once injected, Juvederm works under the skin to add immediate volume, smoothing out the surface of the skin. Juvederm is a fast, nearly painless procedure that can offer results similar to other cosmetic procedures–without surgery. There are different formulations of Juvederm to address specific aesthetic concerns, some of which can last for up to two years! The team at Southern Surgical Arts in Tennessee and Georgia is here to help you look and feel refreshed and vibrant. If you’ve grown frustrated by signs of aging or just want to add a little boost to your cheeks or lips! You can contact us online or call any of our Beauty Bar locations. About Hyaluronic Acid
Juvederm has been in use since 2003, but scientists discovered its key ingredient, hyaluronic acid, nearly a century ago. In 1934, German biochemist Karl Meyer and colleague John Palmer discovered the gel-like substance while studying the fluid of the eye. This chemical compound is found in several places in our bodies, including our joints, and in the deep layers of our dermis. Although they had little understanding of its potential benefits, advances in science and medicine, and the ability to produce a long-lasting synthetic version have led to the widespread usage of hyaluronic acid. And, one of its most popular forms is the key ingredient in dermal fillers for facial rejuvenation.
On a molecular level, HA’s role in the body is to attract and bind to water molecules. When injected beneath the skin, HA gel expands to add volume and reduce the appearance of wrinkles. The presence of this additional HA also promotes the health of the extracellular matrix, where the important structural elements that support firm, youthful skin are produced.
What Juvederm Can Address
Juvederm is a highly versatile treatment that can handle the following concerns:
Fine lines may be small, but can turn into a bigger problem as they slowly deepen over time. They appear in many areas of the face, such as around the eyes and mouth. Juvederm merely pauses the aging process by smoothing out these lines.
Wrinkles and Creasing
As we age, our skin stops producing the same quality and quantity of collagen as previously. As a result, our skin loses firmness, and is unable to bounce back as easily. Sun exposure and lifestyle choices cause further damage, and wrinkles and creasing begin to set in. Juvederm can soften the appearance of creases such as nasolabial lines (the “parenthesis” that stretch from the edges of the nose to the corners of our mouth) furrowed forehead lines, and glabellar lines (the “11’s” that appear between the eyebrows). Juvederm’s thick, clear gel can be injected directly under these lines to “fill in” unsightly creasing and turn back the clock.
As we age, we lose facial volume. This is most noticeable in the cheeks, lips, and under-eye area. Features can begin to appear hollow or sunken. Juvederm has a specific line of products that were specifically designed to address this and can create a plumper, rounder appearance. And, adding volume can give a subtle lift to lightly sagging skin!
Patients enjoy Juvederm because of the safe, simple treatment and exceptional results.

- Understand the kind of results you can achieve with a Juvederm treatment
We’ll discuss these details and more at your meeting with Southern Surgical Arts. Make an appointment at any one of our offices dotted throughout Tennessee and Georgia!
Personal Consultation at Southern Surgical Arts
Patients come to SSA because of our personalized approach, experience, and transparency. Dr. Chad Deal, Dr. Vincent Gardner, and Dr. Michael Klusha are committed to making a positive difference in their patients’ lives with beautiful results.
One of our nurse injectors will explain Juvederm’s benefits, injection process, and aftercare instructions during your consultation appointment. We’ll discuss your medical history (including skin-related conditions) and examine your skin during this meeting. If deemed a good candidate for Juvederm, then we’ll move forward and pencil in your treatment date.
The process starts with a consultation! Arrange for one by reaching us directly at:
- (423) 266-3331 Chattanooga, TN)
- (423) 362-5433 (Beauty Bar – Chattanooga, TN)
- (423) 490-7546 (Beauty Bar – Knoxville, TN)
- (423) 490-7546 (Beauty Bar – Ooltewah, TN)
- (706) 258-2244 (Beauty Bar – Blue Ridge, GA)
- (706) 629-8622 (Beauty Bar – Calhoun, GA)
The great thing about Juvederm is that there is little preparation needed. At your consultation, we give each patient their individualized instructions to follow before they come into the office. We’ll advise to:
- Hold off on certain medications such as Tylenol and blood thinners, unless instructed otherwise.
- Avoid applying topical treatments that may aggravate the skin, such as retinol, glycolic acid, and other anti-aging treatments.
- Stay away from alcoholic beverages at least a day before and after your scheduled treatment.
Once you’re in a private treatment room, we’ll start by cleansing your face and applying a topical anesthetic for your comfort. Then, a nurse injector will strategically administer Juvederm under the skin with a fine needle. When injected, the HA works to smooth and fill hollow areas. Most patients will be done in under 30 minutes and can easily resume their day.
Juvederm is a convenient treatment with no recovery time. You can continue your life right after leaving our office, but it’s best to wait 24 hours before performing strenuous activity. Mild symptoms may be felt for a few days, including swelling, bruising, soreness, and slight redness at the injection sites. You can reduce these symptoms by gently applying an ice pack and taking an OTC pain reliever.
Once the Juvederm settles into place and your injection sites heal over the next few days, you’ll be able to enjoy your final results! Depending on the treatment area, your body, and the Juvederm formula used, your results can last anywhere from 6-18 months. The longevity of the results can be extended with touch-ups at any of our convenient offices dotted throughout Tennessee or Georgia.
However, our reach isn’t just confined to the Volunteer State or the Peach State. We have amassed a loyal following on our Instagram from people just like you from over the world! Be sure to join the discussion by tagging your results!
