Microblading: The Eyebrow Trend You Need to Know About

Nothing frames a face as well as a pair of beautifully-groomed eyebrows. But if you weren’t lucky enough to be born with brows like Cara Delevingne, or if you are one of the many, many women who overplucked in the 90s and never quite got your original eyebrows back…we can help!

Pencils and shadows and brow gel can give you a great look, albeit a temporary one, but drawing on the perfect eyebrows every morning is time-consuming and tedious. Wouldn’t it be great to have a beautiful, symmetrical, full set of brows, custom-designed for your facial shape, that looked great all the time?

Introducing microblading, a new semi-permanent technique that allows an aesthetician to give you the perfect brows…and it’s here at Southern Surgical Arts!

During a microblading procedure, your aesthetician will first groom your eyebrows into the perfect shape for your face and features. Then she will outline that ideal shape as a template to be filled in, allowing you to get a general idea of what your new brows will look like.

Using the microblading tool, the aesthetician will create the appearance of delicate, individual hairs, following the growth pattern of your natural brows. The tip of the microblading tool is composed of several very fine blades that allow the aesthetician to create a full, natural look “hair” by tiny “hair.” The tool delivers a carefully-selected shade of dye into the epidermis, with the goal of having the microbladed strokes blend seamlessly into your natural hair.

Microblading is a semi-permanent procedure, meaning you can expect to get around two years worth of wear out of your new and improved brows. While that is mostly awesome, it also means you need to be very careful who does your procedure. Make sure you choose someone who is not only skilled at the technique but who also has the artistry to create the perfect shape for your face. After all, you’ll be living with your new brows for awhile!

Your aesthetician will apply a numbing cream to minimize discomfort, though you may feel a scratching sensation during the procedure. Because the skin around the eyebrows is already used to years of tweezing, waxing, and threading, patients generally find the procedure to be only mildly uncomfortable, if at all.

Before getting your beautiful new brows, refrain from using Retin-A, getting any chemical peels, or applying acids to your skin. Patients on blood thinners should not have a microblading procedure without first speaking to a doctor.

Plan to spend about two hours getting your new brows. After the procedure, you will need to keep your brows free of any cosmetics or creams for 7-10 days, except for aquaphor during the first 3-5 days. Tiny scabs will form, and it’s important to let these fall out naturally. Then just sit back and enjoy the compliments!
