When considering a cosmetic surgery procedure, choosing your surgeon is by far the most important decision you’ll make.  There is simply no substitute for experience and skill.  You should also feel comfortable with your surgeon’s practice, the facilities and how the staff treats you before, during and after the procedure.

It’s important to understand that there are significant differences in the specialties of cosmetic and plastic surgery.  Plastic surgeons have extensive and diverse training in general surgery, trauma, burns, reconstruction, hand and some cosmetic surgery.  Cosmetic surgeons have extensive and FOCUSED training specifically in the field of cosmetic surgery.

Fellowship-trained and board-certified Cosmetic Surgeons must first be ABMS board-certified in an initial surgical specialty.  What does this mean?  This means that similar to plastic surgeons, cosmetic surgeons must complete a surgical residency in either general surgery, head and neck surgery (ENT), oral maxillofacial surgery or an equivalent surgical specialty.  Then, the surgeon must train for an additional 1-2 years in a Cosmetic Surgery Fellowship program where he/she is focused entirely on cosmetic surgery procedures.

A plastic surgery resident/fellow is only required to perform 55 cosmetic surgery cases in his or her training. A cosmetic surgery resident/fellow typically performs more than 700 cosmetic procedures during his or her post-residency fellowship training alone. And, according to a November 2008 article in the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Journal titled "A Survey of Cosmetic Surgery Training in Plastic Surgery Programs in the Unites States," more than 36% of graduating plastic surgeons felt that they needed additional cosmetic surgery training.

Ask questions of your surgeon

When you are considering a procedure, be sure to ask how many times your surgeon has performed that procedure.  Surgery is a skill that can be honed over time.  To ensure your surgeon has the skills to meet your aesthetic goals, you want one who is trained and experienced in the procedure you are considering.

Both Dr. Nease and Dr. Deal are fellowship-trained; each completed more than 700 procedures during that fellowship year alone.  Their practice at Southern Surgical Arts is 100% devoted to cosmetic surgery.  They do nothing else but Brazilian Butt Lifts, Breast Augmentation, Breast Lifts & Reductions, Eye & Brow Lifts, Face & Neck Lifts, Laser Assisted Face Lifts, Liposculpture & Laser Body Sculpting, Mommy Makeovers, Rhinoplasty & Nose Reshaping, SmartLipo and Tummy Tucks, as well as other cosmetic procedures and services that can enhance your appearance and improve your self-confidence. Their practice specializes in the latest laser technology to bring the patients a practice dedicated to experience and excellence.  After more than 5,000 cosmetic surgery cases, 3 Best of the Best Awards, 3 Reader's Choice Awards and many happy patients in the Before and After Gallery, we believe our surgeons are the best in the area and can best help you achieve your aesthetic goals.

Commitment to Technology and Safety

Our patients’ safety and comfort come first.  We use the latest laser technology for facial rejuvenation, wrinkles, acne scarring, pigmentation, redness, hair removal, tattoo removal and more.  We have used two of our lasers, the Affirm CO2 fractionated resurfacing laser and the SmartLipo laser to research the effects of a new approach for minimally invasive facial rejuvenation.

Pioneered by Dr. Nease, the laser facelift study was a clinical study for facial rejuvenation and advanced face lifting techniques using the two lasers in combination. This technique is at the leading edge of facelift technology and minimizes downtime and scarring while achieving naturally youthful results.   Dr. Nease presented his findings at the 27th Annual Scientific meeting of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery in January 2011.

In recent years, Dr. Nease's research has been published in several aesthetic surgical journals and he has given numerous lectures and presentations to his peers across the country.  He also trains other surgeons from across the country in the latest cosmetic surgery techniques and laser technology.  Dr. Nease is currently a fellowship director through the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery (AACS) and actively involved in training young cosmetic surgeons from across the country in the latest cosmetic surgery techniques.

Why technology matters to you

Advances in technology mean your surgery is safer, your healing time is faster and your results are better.  The facility where your procedure takes place is equally important.  That is why Southern Surgical Arts Calhoun office is a fully-accredited, AAAHC surgery center.  We also perform surgeries at the Grandview Medical Center in Jasper, TN and Physician’s Surgery Center at Parkridge East Hospital in Chattanooga, both of which are accredited by The Joint Commission.  Accreditation means our facility is designed and built with your safety in mind.

Commitment to You

Dr. Nease, Dr. Deal  and the staff and Southern Surgical Arts are excited to partner with you in your care and to help you achieve your aesthetic goals.  We will gladly answer any questions you have regarding your procedure, the expertise and training of our staff, or financing. Let us know how we can help you.
